Nearly the entire city of Winnipeg was hit with hockey fever during the 1992-93 season thanks to the arrival of Finland-born right wing Teemu Selanne. Going into that campaign, the player who held the NHL rookie goal-scoring record was New York Islanders legend Mike Bossy with 53. Selanne caught fire from the beginning, scoring 11 goals in a 20-point October. He was scoring at a steady pace all year and then obliterated the record with a 20-goal effort in March. Winnipeg fans rode the wave of “The New Boss” campaign as Selanne became a local legend. He spent a mere three and a half seasons in a Jets sweater yet he’s still considered arguably the most popular player in franchise history. Selanne has signed this limited edition (25) Young Guns Winnipeg Shadow Box in black paint pen. The three-layer piece designed in the same fashion as the Shadow Box trading cards first seen in Upper Deck SPx Football in 2009, it features a skating Selanne in a Jets away jersey on the outer acrylic layer and “The Finnish Flash” taking a slap shot in a home jersey along with his signature on the clear acrylic middle layer sheet. The three layers are enclosed in a black metal frame that measures 20.5” x 2.5” x 16.5”. His signature is deemed authentic by virtue of Upper Deck Authenticated’s Five Step Process.
