On June 27, 2014, Aaron Ekblad was selected first overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers. Ekblad played in 81 games for the Panthers and recorded an impressive 109 hits as well as 80 blocked shots. In his rookie season, Ekblad averaged 21:48 of ice time per game and went on to win the league’s award for the most outstanding rookie of the year – the Calder Memorial Trophy.
