The 2025 4 Nations Face-Off was a first ever mid-season international competition between the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland featuring most of the NHL’s best current players representing their respective countries. The clear favorites in the tournament were Team USA and Team Canada. Team Canada featured the most star power with Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and Nathan MacKinnon while Team USA featured a more balanced lineup of Auston Matthews, Charlie McAvoy, the Tkachuk brothers, and Connor Hellebuyck at goalie. As most predicted, the two teams met in the championship game, a game that would not soon be forgotten. The two teams battled through an evenly matched game into overtime and after foiling a couple of American scoring opportunities the Canadiens got their chance when, 8:18 into overtime, Mitch Marner sailed a pass to Connor McDavid up front who would drive it past USA goalie Connor Hellebuyck for the win. In a tournament that will be sure to return in years to come, Connor McDavid will always be etched in history as the inaugural tournament’s hero with his tournament clinching goal.
