For Dominique Wilkins, two-time NBA slam dunk champion, his shoes are vital in finding the right amount of comfort for his athletic play and highlight reel dunks. The Reebok Pump was first released on November 24, 1989. That same month Dominique Wilkins would promote the Pump on its first television commercial and begin to wear the shoe regularly. The shoe was revolutionary in the fact that it was the first shoe to have an internal inflation mechanism. Wilkins, having already risen to considerable fame by the time of the shoes’ release would bring instant fame to the shoe. Wilkins was the shoes’ first endorser and would wear the shoe when he won the 1990 Slam Dunk Contest.
