Details
Originally drafted by the Utah Jazz in the 1982 NBA draft, Dominique Wilkins was traded shortly after to the Atlanta Hawks where he would end up playing the first 12 seasons of his NBA Career. Not only was Wilkins a consistent offensive threat each season, he would earn the nickname “The Human Highlight Film” for his athletic ability and his highlight reel dunks. While Wilkins was a 9-time All-Star, he gained fame for winning the slam dunk contests in 1985 and 1990. 1985 will be remembered as one of the greatest slam dunk contests of all time. Here, Wilkins would face off against Michael Jordan in the final round. Using a two-handed reverse dunk off the backboard for his first dunk and a huge two hand windmill dunk for his second, Wilkins would defeat Jordan in the first slam dunk battle between the two.
