Kerri Walsh Jennings is one of the greatest beach volleyball players of all time, and a lot of that is attributed to her overall dominant game. While she was a force on offense, and was recognized for it with many awards, her defense was just as much of an elevator of her game. Walsh Jennings’ defensive prowess was apparent early on, as she recorded 1,285 digs and 502 blocks in her college career with the Stanford Cardinal, becoming the first ever Pac-10 player to record 1,500 kills, 1,200 digs, and 500 blocks. Her dominance on the defensive end continued through her professional career, where she was named the FIVB Best Blocker seven times and the AVP Best Defensive Player one time. Walsh Jennings was also named FIVP Most Outstanding Player four times and AVP Most Valuable Player two times, reflecting her overall game. She would go on to win three Olympic gold medals and one bronze medal while also dominating the AVP and FIVB, cementing her status as one of the best to ever do it.
