As a highly coveted prospect in the draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Garnett with the fifth overall pick. Garnett justified the pick as he played his way into the starting lineup and finished the season averaging 14 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.26 blocks per game in his last 42 contests, earning a spot on the All-Rookie Second Team and finishing sixth in Rookie of the Year voting. As the years went on, he climbed his way up to establish himself as one of the top players in the NBA and the greatest player in Timberwolves history, including winning MVP in the 2003-04 season where he led Minnesota to its best season in franchise history.
