Details
The Boston Celtics have had a long history of dominant big men throughout its storied franchise. It all started with Bill Russell, who came in and won an unparalleled 11 NBA championships. He set a legacy that many would follow in the team’s history and a standard that was expected of players to strive for. On July 31, 2007, after a 21-year title drought (the longest in team history), the Celtics made a blockbuster trade for superstar power forward Kevin Garnett. Along with Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, KG immediately showed why he was chosen to carry on the torch as he helped lead the Celtics to a league best 66-16 record. Despite some tough battles throughout the 2008 playoffs, the Celtics showed why they were a favorite coming into the season and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in six games in the 2008 NBA Finals. This was Garnett’s first career championship and the franchise’s 17th, immediately putting Garnett in Celtics’ lore. KG went on to play six seasons with the Celtics and established himself among the team’s legendary big men.
