Larry Bird

The Boston Celtics selected Larry Bird as their first round selection in 1978 (the 6th pick overall). Bird decided to play one more year with ISU and led them to the 1979 NCAA Title Game versus Michigan State (and Magic Johnson). Larry Bird joined the Celtics in the fall of 1979 and was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 1980.

Larry Bird is one of the greatest players in NBA history and was a member of the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team constructed in 1996. As a member of the Celtics, Bird was a 12 time NBA All-Star, a 3 time NBA champion, and a 3 time league MVP. Bird played his entire professional career for Boston. He led the Celtics to five NBA Finals appearances, winning championships in 1981, 1984 and 1986.
