Details

Magic Johnson is regarded as one of the greatest point guards to play the game of basketball. A highly recruited player coming out of Lansing, Michigan, Magic stayed close to home and played college basketball at Michigan State. Already seen as one of the best players in the country, Johnson led the Spartans to a national championship with a win over Larry Bird and the Indiana State Sycamores. The point guard’s two great years of college led him to be selected first overall in the 1979 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Johnson’s career soared from here where he made an immediate impact with his flashy style of play that was labeled as “Showtime”. The Lakers won the NBA Finals in his rookie season, and he took home the Finals MVP award after a 42-point performance in a game he started out of position at center as an injury replacement. Los Angeles continued to thrive as one of the biggest brands in basketball under Johnson, where he won three NBA MVP awards and five championships, including three NBA Finals MVP awards. Along with Bird, Magic is credited for helping revitalize the popularity of the NBA and inspire the younger generation. Johnson would eventually be inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2002 and had his number 32 retired by the Lakers.

This basketball is autographed by Magic Johnson with a silver paint pen. Johnson’s signature was witnessed by an Upper Deck representative as part of UDA’s 5-step authentication process.
