Details
Earvin Johnson was born in Lansing, Michigan, where he was a junior high standout basketball player before attending Everett High School. It was at Everett that he was given the nickname “Magic” that has stuck to this day. Magic led Everett to a 27-1 record and the state championship in his senior year to help him earn a spot on the inaugural McDonald’s All-American team and to help establish him as the best high school player to ever come out of Michigan at the time. Johnson’s high recruit status landed him down the road at Michigan State University, where he made an immediate impact for the Spartans. With a 17 points, 7.4 assists, and 7.9 rebounds per game stat line at point guard, he helped lead Michigan State to the Elite Eight. His sophomore year was even better where his 17.1 points, 8.4 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game stat line earned Johnson a spot on the All-American team. In the NCAA Tournament he helped lead Michigan State to its first ever national title, defeating Larry Bird and the Indiana State Sycamores, while being voted the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Magic Johnson’s two dominant years of college basketball helped lead him to become the number one overall pick of the 1979 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers.
This jersey is autographed by Magic Johnson with a black paint pen. Johnson’s signature was witnessed by an Upper Deck representative as part of UDA’s 5-step authentication process.
