In the 2023 NBA Season, the league introduced the first-ever In-Season tournament. Nick Smith Jr. was a part of history as he got to play in the Charlotte Hornets' first In-Season tournament game. They squared off at home against the Miami Heat. Smith Jr. played 15 minutes and managed a rebound along with three points. He was a perfect 1-1 from beyond the arc. Smith Jr. also was able to face off against Maimi Heat rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. The Hornets lost a tough-fought battle for their first In-Season Tournament game, losing 111-105.
