Drafted in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder Peyton Watson was immediately traded to the Denver Nuggets on draft night. Prior to being drafted Peyton Watson was a consensus five-star recruit and the highest-ranked player from California in the 2021 recruiting class. The 2021 McDonalds All-American decided to declare for the NBA draft after only one season at UCLA leaving many scouts concerned that Watson had declared too early, his results on the court proved otherwise. Watson’s first season in professional ball included split time between the Nuggets and their G-League affiliate the Grand Rapid Gold but his time with the Gold proved beneficial as he would average 22 points per game and a field goal percentage of 45%, his strong performance forcing his way onto the Nuggets roster for the majority of the season and postseason.
