In the NFL, the ultimate goal for any team or player is to win the Super Bowl and hoist the Lombardi Trophy. When the New Orleans Saints drafted Reggie Bush second overall in 2006 they had high hopes that he would help bring their fans that first championship they had been hungry for for years. The star running back already had a championship pedigree, winning two AP Championships in college with the USC Trojans and making another championship game appearance in his Heisman-winning 2005 season. Bush immediately contributed to New Orleans’ turnaround, as the team’s 10-6 record earned them a number two seed in the NFC as they reached the NFC Championship Game. While the Saints remained competitive the next two seasons, they turned a corner in 2009 and established themselves among the top contenders in the NFL with a 13-3 record that included a 13 game winning streak. With Bush in the backfield, the Saints took down the Arizona Cardinals (including two Bush touchdowns), the Minnesota Vikings (with one Bush touchdown) to reach the Super Bowl, and then won Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts to give Bush and New Orleans their first ever championship. They became the first team ever to defeat three consecutive Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks in the playoffs.
