When Steph Curry made his 2,974th career three pointer with 7:34 to play in the first quarter of a regular season matchup against the New York Knicks he broke Ray Allen’s standing record of 2,973 and he did it over the course of just 789 games, a whopping 511 fewer games than it took Allen to reach the milestone. While breaking the record was incredible enough it was noted after the game by head coach Steve Kerr that there was a total of 82 three pointers taken by both teams in Curry’s record-breaking game. The high number of threes taken displays a testament to Curry’s impact on the game. Just ten years prior a game with that many threes taken would have been unthinkable but nowadays teams are learning that you can build your offense around players with strong shooters outside the perimeter. Curry’s impact on the game won’t only be about the awards he won and the records he broke but also how he changed how offenses operate in the NBA.
