Details
On a historic night on December 2, 2020, AEW took a huge step forward in establishing itself as a major wrestling promotion. After a tag team match, the legendary wrestler Sting made an appearance, marking his first appearance with AEW. A week later he confirmed that he was officially signed with AEW, a big get for the up-and-coming promotion. Sting originally only planned to wrestle in cinematic matches on screen, but that all changed on May 30, 2021. Darby Allin, who Sting aligned with in his whole AEW tenure, convince Sting to return to live matches. In front of a full capacity crowd in Jacksonville, Florida, the 61-year-old legend wrestled in front of a live crowd for the first time in over five years, an event that was highly anticipated by the wrestling community. Despite his age, Sting put on a show that had viewers comparing him to his prime. The duo of Sting and Darby Allin defeated Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page, setting the tone for what would turn out to be an undefeated run in AEW.
