Traded from the Kings to the Blues in a mid-season trade during the 1995-96 season, Wayne Gretzky would play 18 games for the Blues before signing with the Rangers following the season. As he had done everywhere else he had gone, Gretzky brought the city of St. Louis to life as he instantly made the Blues Stanley Cup contenders. Paired with future Hall of Famer Brett Hull, Gretzky scored 8 goals and 13 assists (21 points) in 18 games in helping the Blues to the playoffs for the franchise’s 17th straight season. In the playoffs, Gretzky would score 2 goals and 14 assists (16 points) in 13 games as the Blues would lose to the Red Wings in 7 games in the Western Conference Semifinals. While Gretzky’s time in St. Louis was brief, he brought excitement to the city and is still a popular figure with many fans wearing his jersey today.
