Details
Mike Tyson made his professional boxing debut on March 6, 1985 at just 18 years old and defeated Hector Mercedes with a first-round technical knockout. The young Brooklyn native came out of the gate dominating, beginning his career with 26 wins by knockout or technical knockout in his first 28 fights, with 16 of them coming in the first round. As the world started to take notice, Tyson was scheduled to compete for the WBC heavyweight championship against Trevor Berbick on November 22, 1986 in an event called Judgment Day. Coming into the match at 27-0 in his career and 12-0 so far in 1986, the 20-year-old Tyson was far from outmatched by the 32-year-old Berbick. Tyson dominated the whole match and with a left hook to the head in the second round, he took down Berbick to claim the heavyweight championship. At 20 years and 4 months old, Tyson became the youngest ever to win a heavyweight championship in the history of the sport.
