Details

When the Quebec Nordiques moved to Denver and rebranded as the Colorado Avalanche, they wanted to make a big splash in their new city. Not too long into the inaugural 1995-96 season, the Avalanche did just that by trading for superstar goaltender and two-time champion Patrick Roy. Colorado was already looking strong, but this moved helped put them over the top as they earned the second seed in the Western Conference. Roy helped bring his playoff experience as he helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in the first year in Colorado, the first Denver-based Big Four team to win a championship. Only five years later in 2001, Colorado found itself back in position to hoist the Cup again and Roy delivered. His performance helped him earn his third career Conn Smythe Trophy, a record that still stands in the NHL. Roy’s tenure in Colorado was a successful back end of his career that saw him still appearing in All-Star Games and setting the standard for the goalie position. The Avalanche retired his number 33, etching his name among the greatest to play for the franchise.

This replica goalie blocker is autographed by Patrick Roy with a silver paint pen. Roy’s signature was witnessed by an Upper Deck Authenticated representative as part of UDA’s 5-step authentication process.
