Details
On June 27, 1988, Mike Tyson faced off against Michael Spinks in what was one of the most hyped-up matches in boxing history. Both boxers came in undefeated and held respective heavyweight titles, so many people saw this as the match to determine the true heavyweight champion. Experts and fans alike were split on who they predicted would win in what many expected to be an even fight that would go many rounds. The 21-year-old Tyson immediately got after it at the opening bell, landing punches left and right, forcing Spinks to take a knee just a minute into the first round. After getting up, Tyson hit him with a left-right combination to knock him back down. Spinks was unable to get back up this time, giving Tyson a knockout win in just 91 seconds. This impressive performance left many in awe of Tyson, and the round was named the round of the year by Ring Magazine in 1988.
This image is autographed by Mike Tyson with a silver paint pen. Tyson’s signature was witnessed by an Upper Deck Authenticated representative as part of UDA’s 5-step authentication process.
