Serena Williams literally grew up in tennis having begun playing at the age of 4. Her and sister Venus Williams were coached by their parents in Compton, California, before moving to Florida to attend a tennis academy. Father Richard Williams eventually took over coaching duties again until Serena took the world by storm. This unique timeline piece highlights some of Serena’s more important career moments. The first image was taken on 4/20/91 on a public tennis court in Compton. The final image was taken on 1/28/17 as she won her 23rd career Grand Slam singles title. The moments in between are listed below. The specific dates in this piece match when the image was taken followed by the event location and significance of the date.
