Coming to New York with lofty expectations as the first overall selection in the 2020 NHL Draft, Alexis Lafrenière held all the talent and charisma necessary to transform  into the next great Rangers superstar. Looking to have an immediate impact, the 19-year old Quebec native made his first appearance on ice in the Battle of New York when the Rangers squared off against the rival Islanders in their season opener on January 14^th, 2021. Although there were no fans in attendance due to pandemic regulations, playing at Madison Square Garden, the most premier venue in all of sports, allowed for Lafrenière to showcase his skills in front of the entire NHL world as he tallied a shot on goal, a hit, a block, and even spent two minutes in the penalty box while skating on ice for just over 15 minutes. Despite the Rangers dropping the game 4-0, Lafrenière was thrilled to finally have his NHL debut under his belt and looked forward to continuing to learn and develop under a veteran cast of players and coaches throughout the season.
