Details
The December 11th, 1967 issue of Sports Illustrated featured Bobby Orr on his first ever cover of the magazine. The 1966-67 season was Orr’s first in the NHL, and his rookie season was a memorable one as he would score 41 points in 61 games and take home the Calder Memorial Trophy for Rookie of the Year. While the Bruins experimented with Orr at center they ended up with him at defenseman. Orr’s 13 goals and 28 assists were one of the best rookie seasons in NHL history by a defenseman to that point. While Orr would finish runner-up to Harry Howell for the Norris Trophy for top defenseman for the 1966-67 season he would go on to win the award a total of 8 times throughout his career, the most of any current or retired NHL player to this day.
This Sports Illustrated cover print from December 11th, 1967, is autographed by Bobby Orr. Orr’s signature was witnessed by an Upper Deck representative as part of UDA’s 5-step authentication process.
