Details
1970 was one of Bobby Orr’s most memorable years of his life. The 1969-70 season saw Orr have a breakthrough season posting his highest goal (33), assist (87), and point (120) totals of his career to that point. The 1969-70 season also saw him win his first Art Ross Trophy (regular season points leader), Hart Memorial Trophy (regular season MVP), and Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff MVP) en route to his first Stanley Cup title. While gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated is a prestigious honor in itself reserved normally for only sports’ top stars, when Orr appeared on the cover of the December 21, 1970 issue it was just icing on the cake to a perfect year for the young star. Orr would appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated a total of five times, his appearance on this December issue would be the second appearance on the cover in 1970.
This Sports Illustrated cover print from December 21st, 1970, is autographed by Bobby Orr. Orr’s signature was witnessed by an Upper Deck representative as part of UDA’s 5-step authentication process.
