Details
This Bobby Orr “Boston on Top” Sports Illustrated Cover captures a young photo of Orr in just his third season in the NHL. While the best was still yet to come for Orr he had already won a Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) and James Norris Trophy (Best defenseman of the season). Orr’s career was revolutionary in that it changed the way defenseman played by introducing defenseman to the offensive side of the game. Orr played with a toughness rarely ever seen in the game today. Not only was Orr massively skilled with his sharp, blistering, and accurate shots but he played with a reckless abandon that hadn’t been seen in the game with his dives to block shots and skating the length of the rink on full speed rushes for the puck. Bobby Orr will always be known as one of the best players the game has ever seen not just because of his numerous achievements but also by how he changed the way the game was played for defenseman.
This Sports Illustrated cover print from February 3rd, 1969, is autographed by Bobby Orr. Orr’s signature was witnessed by an Upper Deck representative as part of UDA’s 5-step authentication process.
