Connor McDavid’s 2022-2023 season would have been remarkable by any hockey players’ standards but even on his own incredibly high level the season was his best yet. His 153 points, the most since Mario Lemieux scored 161 in 1995-96, were 30 more than his next best season, when he put up 123 in the 2022-23 season. The same can be said for his goals (Career high 64 in 2022-23 vs his previous high of 44 in 2021-22) and assists (Career high 89 in 2022-23 vs his previous high of 79 in 2021-22). McDavid’s 153 points ranked as the 15th best all time and there have only been 3 other players who have had higher scoring seasons than McDavid (Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Steve Yzerman). While McDavid’s 2022-23 season may not compare to the multiple 200+ point seasons of Wayne Gretzky it still will rank as one of the best seasons by an Oilers player of all-time.
