Eric Lindros Autographed “Winter Classic” 20x24 Image

Having experimented with the idea of an outdoor ice hockey game since the early 2000’s, the NHL officially inaugurated the NHL Winter Classic in 2008, looking to have an outdoor, regular season game played around New Year’s Day on the chosen city’s respective football or baseball field. To add to the excitement of the event, the NHL also opted for there to be an alumni game played amongst former players of the chosen teams if able and willing to play. To kick start 2012, the decision was made to celebrate two historic franchises and rivals by having the Philadelphia Flyers host the New York Rangers at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Despite having retired just a few years earlier in 2007, Eric Lindros was thrilled to participate in this leisurely challenge alongside some of his former teammates and other all-time greats such as Bernie Parent, Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Mark Howe, John LeClair, and Mark Messier. While this game was played in a light-hearted spirit, Lindros still received a tremendous ovation from the Philly faithful upon his introduction and was able to record an assist and a penalty to help lead the Flyers alumni to a 3-1 victory over their New York counterparts.
