It is tough to find an NHL season better than the one that Joe Sakic had in 2000-2001, a year that had it all. A strong first half led him to be selected as a starter in the 2001 All-Star Game, where he scored a goal in a win in front of his home crowd. The rest of the season, Sakic continued his dominance to the tune of 118 points, including a career-high 54 goals. Tying for the league lead in +/-, the Avalanche captain racked up individual awards by winning the Hart Memorial Trophy, the Lester B. Pearson Award, and the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, all while being named to the NHL First All-Star Team. All of this individual success translated to team success, too, as Colorado secured the President’s Trophy for finishing with the best record in the NHL. They didn’t stop there, as the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup for the second and final time in Sakic’s career. The 2000-2001 season was the peak of the career for one of the NHL’s all-time greats and one of the best a hockey player could have.
