Details
While Joe Sakic is most well known for his accomplishments with the Colorado Avalanche, he still had some outstanding seasons to begin his career while the franchise was still the Quebec Nordiques. After being drafted number 15 overall, he immediately made an impact in the 1988-89 season with his scoring prowess which led him to finish in the top ten in voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy given to NHL’s rookie of the year. From there, Sakic only continued to improve as he eclipsed 100 points in just his second season, a feat he would accomplish three times as a Nordique. After sharing captain duties in his third year, he was named full-time captain at the start of the 1992-93 season and led the Nordiques to the playoffs in two of the last three seasons before relocating. Sakic’s seven seasons in Quebec set the tone for an illustrious career.
