Details
Born in Bromma, Sweden, Mats Sundin built a hall of fame legacy both in Canada and in his home country of Sweden. In the NHL, Sundin played 13 seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs and at the time of his retirement would lead the franchise in points (987) and goals (420). He would also share the NHL record for most regular-season overtime goals (15) and fastest overtime goal (6 seconds). Sundin was the first European born player to be drafted first overall in the NHL Draft and the longest-serving non-North American captain in NHL history. The Hockey Hall of Fame is more than just the NHL though, and Sundin also made quite a name for himself internationally. Sundin would represent Team Sweden in various world competitions beginning in the 1989 European Junior Championships in 1989 and culminating with a gold medal in the 2006 Winter Olympics. In total, Sundin would win 4 gold medals representing Team Sweden. Sundin was inducted into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 2012.
This plaque is autographed and inscribed “HOF 12” by Mats Sundin. Sundin’s signature and inscription were witnessed by an Upper Deck representative as part of UDA’s 5-step authentication process.
