Many professional athletes take pride and passion playing in international competitions, often finding the most enjoyment representing their country on the world stage. The same can be said for Mats Sundin, who excelled in his time playing for Team Sweden. Sundin would play for Sweden in the IIHF World Championships, Winter Olympics, and World Cup, holding the title of team captain for the national squad for many of these competitions. Sundin would win gold medals in the 1991, 1992, and 1998 World Championships, he would win his last gold medal in his final international competition, the 2006 Winter OIympics in Turin, Italy. Perhaps Mats Sundin’s most memorable international game came in the 2003 World Championships Quarterfinals Round with Sweden facing Finland. With Sweden trailing Finland 5-1 with 6:44 into the second period, Sundin would help his team stage one of the biggest comebacks in international hockey history as Team Sweden would come back and win 6-5, Sundin contributing a goal in the effort.
