Mats Sundin made history in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft when he was selected first overall by the Quebec Nordiques. By becoming the first pick, Sundin became the first European-born player drafted first overall in NHL history. Sundin would make his NHL debut with the Nordiques on October 4th, 1990, scoring his first NHL goal in his first NHL game on opening night against the Hartford Whalers. Sundin would play his first four seasons with the Nordiques, improving in each of his first three seasons. In his rookie year during the 1990-91 season Sundin would post 59 points, second on the team to Joe Sakic. The following season, Sundin would post 76 points while in his third season (1992-93) he would post career highs in goals (47), assists (67), and points (114).
