As the first overall pick in the 2019 WHL entry draft, Matt Savoie came to the Winnipeg Ice with lofty expectations of delivering on ice. However, due to the global pandemic, Savoie’s rookie year was cut short due to the entire CHL being shut down for the remainder of that season and the next season. Still looking to improve his game, Savoie decided to take his talents to the USHL where he scored 38 points in 34 games for the Dubuque Fighting Saints. In his first full WHL season, Savoie dazzled fans and scouts, scoring 90 points in 65 games while leading the Ice to the best overall regular season record in the entire WHL.
