In April 2022 Michael Misa was granted exceptional status to enter the OHL for the 2022-23 season, just the 8th player ever to be granted exceptional status. While players of any sport may struggle to handle such high expectations, Misa handled his pressure with ease. In his OHL debut on October 1, 2022, he would notch two goals in a 10-6 Spirit victory over the Guelph Storm. While he would miss 6 weeks of the season due to a fractured tibia he would still have the most productive season for an exceptional-status player in OHL history achieving 1.24 points per game. Misa would lead all OHL rookies in points with 56, becoming the first Spirit player ever to earn top honors from the league.
