Paul Coffey was selected in the first round of the 1980 NHL Draft, sixth overall, by the Edmonton Oilers after a successful campaign with the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds and Kitchener Rangers. In his rookie season, Coffey recorded 32 points. He followed that up with an incredible 89 points in his sophomore season. The Oilers won their second straight Stanley Cup in the 1984-85 season, and Coffey won the Norris Trophy awarded to the league's best defenseman.
