It’s not too often that you come across a generational talent who has the skills and athleticism necessary to be great but also the drive, determination, and charisma to make others around them great. From his very first step on NHL ice, Wayne Gretzky exemplified all of these championship qualities to the fullest as he orchestrated the most unprecedented run in sports history winning four Stanley cup championships alongside Hall of Famers Paul Coffey, Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson, and Jari Kurri. Despite having an all-star cast around him, there is no debate on who the heart and soul of the Oilers was as Gretzky continuously set and shattered numerous NHL records that will likely never be touched again such as his 51 game point streak or his 50 goals in 39 games. Overall, Gretzky always rose to the occasion, not only individually but as the leader of their team, in spurring the Oilers to four Stanley Cup titles during his time in Edmonton.
