At the Memorial, Hovland would finish with scores of 71-71-69-70, shooting 7 under par for the tournament including a clutch birdie on the 17th hole to force a playoff with Danny McCarthy. During the one-hole playoff Hovland would outlast McCarthy by one shot clinching the victory with a 7-foot putt. The exciting playoff win was not only Hovland’s first PGA Tour victory in the United States but also propelled him to a world ranking of #5 (as of June 12, 2023).
