Viktor Hovland first started to play golf at 11 years old and from there it didn’t take long for him to get noticed in the golf world. Just five years later, at age 16, Hovland would win Norway’s 2014 Amateur Championship making a clear statement to the world that he was a player to watch. His early success brought him much attention as he would ultimately decide to attend Oklahoma State University to play golf. While at OKST Hovland would make history becoming the first Norwegian player to win the US Amateur Championship in 2018. He built on this success as he would later compete at the 2019 Masters finishing tied for 32nd, the result propelled Hovland to the top of the global amateur rankings. At the 2019 US Open Hovland would finish tied for 12th with a total score of 280, the lowest-ever total for an amateur in the championship breaking Jack Nicklaus’ previous record of 282 from 1960.
