Drafted first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft Connor McDavid made his debut with the Oilers on October 8th, 2015 in a 3 -1 loss to the St. Louis Blues. 5 days later, on October 13th, McDavid scored his first NHL Goal in the second period to tie the game against the Dallas Stars. With the goal McDavid joined some prestigious company joining Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky as players to score their first NHL goal in their third career game. The following season, the Oilers named McDavid the captain of the team; at 19 years and 266 days old McDavid became the youngest captain in NHL history. On October 11, 2023, the Oilers opened the 2023-24 season with McDavid as their captain for his 8th consecutive season, a franchise record as no Oilers player has ever served longer than 5.
